It’s surprising how many clients have expressed guilt for coming to therapy because they shouldn’t…
Stress, Self Sabotage and Fibromyalgia
A highly accomplished, intelligent woman was referred to me for stress and self sabotage. She wanted to accomplish more in her life, but it felt like a struggle. Part of her was ambitious to reach the new goals and visions she had set for herself. But with her subconscious mind pushing back hard, her central nervous system was caught in the crossfire. During our intake interview, I discovered she was also suffering from the effects of Fibromyalgia. My assumption based on many years of experience, was that her Fibromyalgia was likely collateral damage from the internal dichotomy between her conscious and subconscious agendas.
The first step was to address her “feelings”, both positive and negative, without criticism or self judgement. This was a critical step because every feeling is attached to a subconscious belief and her subconscious mind was simply trying to protect her the best way it knew how. Given the core beliefs she had developed during her formative years.
Using Emotional Freedom Techniques and other related “Energy Psychology” we were able to bring these beliefs and assumptions one by one into the light of day to be re-examined collaboratively by her conscious and subconscious minds. Figuring out the “whole truth” about each formative big T or little t trauma, memory and belief, and how it really fit into her current life and situations.
As we proceeded, safe step by safe step, her internal resistance and stress levels began to resolve. Allowing her conscious and subconscious mind to begin working in tandem towards mutually desired outcomes.
As for the Fibromyalgia, the Center for Disease Control in the U.S. estimates that ninety percent of disease states are influenced or caused by stress. Her Fibromyalgia was not an “illness” it was her body’s response to the inflammatory effects of high stress. Once the feelings of negative stress were largely gone, so were most of the symptoms of her Fibromyalgia.
These results with fibromyalgia have been so consistent, that sufferers are eligible to participate in the unique six sessions benefits warranty program offered to those with emotional distress or self sabotage.
The take-away is that those experiencing any inflammatory states may benefit a great deal, by addressing their emotional health and the root causes of perceived stress, overwhelm, perfectionism and other harsh self-judgements.
Benefits so powerful they’re guaranteed.
Yours in good mental and emotional health.
